a quiet moment

It's been one of those crazy, hectic and exhausting weeks, and today I felt completely done in. Somehow I made it through all my classes, handed in my calculus assignment and got to the kids' schools on time to pick them up. Megan has met up with her anime friends at the mall, and Calum and I spent a fun hour getting a smoothie and buying some books before heading home.

It's a very rare day for October in Vancouver - the sky is completely clear and blue with no clouds. I've got the patio door open and there's a lovely cool breeze coming into the room. Calum is absorbed in his new stack of paperbacks, and the only sounds I can hear are birds singing outside, the quiet whoosh of nearby traffic, and the persistently attention-seeking cat purring beside me. I've curled up on the couch with a pillow and a blanket. It's such a wonderful feeling to lie here with nothing I immediately need to do, nowhere I need to go, and just enjoy a quiet hour with my son.
