Summer days

The summer is going along very nicely. Calum is in his third week of daycamp and is loving it (well, except for the French part this week - I did want him to have one week of French camp so he wouldn't forget whatever he learned in kindergarten, and he's rather grumpy about being expected to actually speak the language...) Initially I had planned a one week on, one week off schedule for most of the summer, but he loved his first camp so much that he begged me to sign him up for something else. Luckily I was able to get the last spot in a daycamp last week run by the city that wasn't too expensive.

Speaking of camp, Megan is in the middle of her second week at the Girl Guide camp she signed up for out in Ontario. I really hope she's having a fabulous time out there, canoeing, swimming, doing crafts and of course, giggling with the other girls. Lucky kid! I sent her a couple of care packages with manga books and cute Japanese stationery (I even included some stamps and our address) but haven't heard back yet. I am taking that as a very good sign, if she's too busy to write to us then that's the best kind of news. That said, I'm looking forward to talking with her when she gets back to Grandma's on Saturday.

As for me, I'm making the most of my semester off since I'm planning to try and do a full-time course load this fall. I've been doing lots of relaxing - reading, playing games and chatting with friends online. I've also caught up on lots of odd jobs that have been put off for way too long. This week's project is tweaking our budget so we can make sure we have enough put aside for some of our longer-term goals. The previous two weeks I sorted through masses of papers that were piling up all over the place. It's all stuff that needed doing but that I'd been putting off way too long.

And Jeff... well, Jeff's summer probably would have been improved if he hadn't hurt one of his feet rather badly at taekwondo a couple of weeks ago. He somehow managed to kick someone in the knee, and it made his foot swell up and bruise quite gruesomely. He's finally not limping any more, but unfortunately this came just in time for a big milestone week at work so there'll be lots of overtime. Hopefully he'll be able to fit in some fun this weekend!
