My goal-oriented kid

So, Megan was VERY EXCITED by her first Girl Guide meeting on Thursday night. It was nice to see her high spirits when she walked in the door after the meeting. She insisted that we had to go and buy her uniform and the program book as soon as possible, so after school on Friday we headed west into some fancy part of Vancouver whose name I don't know (there are a lot of fancy parts of Vancouver and I can't always keep them straight yet) to the headquarters of the BC Girl Guides. As soon as we got into the car with our purchases, she started reading the program book, and she has spent the entire weekend doing badge work, in between homework. She only has one year of Guides and is very concerned about how she'll manage to earn all 82 merit badges before June. :-)

Right now her plan is to finish four badges a week. I really enjoyed helping her with the Brownie badge work, and while she didn't end up getting all of those she did get way more than any other kid in her Brownie group. So I'm looking forward to spending our weekends doing badge work together. Most kids don't seem to care about the badges, but I emailed the Guide leaders anyway and offered to do badge work once a month with the group since they are already insisting that the parents need to come and help out at meetings in order to meet their adult/child ratio. Who knows - maybe Megan's enthusiasm will be infectious.
