things about the brits
Things that British people understand about:
* chocolate, chocolate biscuits, cakes, scones, sandwiches and cream cakes. (Almost none of these things being gluten-free, I am speaking mostly from past experience)
* Marks & Spencer food hall understands how to produce fresh, extremely tasty food and how to place their stores strategically (ie, highway service centres - what a fabulous thing it is to be able to buy fresh fruit, nice healthy sandwiches and salads while on a long trip)
* cheese - it comes in many varieties and is indescribably good
* cool old ruins of castles, abbeys, towers, stone circles etc
Things that British people (seemingly) don't understand about:
* placement of punctuation marks on keyboards - it is just WRONG here
* the necessity of a hot shower every morning
* people need drinks of water on a long flight
* toast needs to be buttered and eaten immediately while hot, not placed in a rack where it gets cold before it reaches the table
* It is ludicrous to charge £5 for a baked potato with a bit of cheese or some ham on top
* two curved bits of wood or plastic nailed to the sides of a bowl do not constitute a toilet seat
* if you are going to charge someone to use a public washroom, you had better keep it clean and stocked with soap and paper towels
more to come as i think of them ;-)

Oh, I am so envious of the castles and ruins and abbeys..... but I detest the toilet issues. In pretty much all of Europe, it can be hard to find nice, clean toilets. I remember planning our days not around museums or art galleries, but good public bathrooms.
