Happy New Year
So, we rang in the New Year in typical understated fashion... we didn't go out anywhere, didn't have anyone over, just hung out at home all day yesterday and then spent some of the evening watching TV. Jeff and Calum watched Anime on YTV and I watched two hours of "Antiques Roadshow Favorites" on PBS. Then at 10:30 we all got tired and went to sleep, with the possible exception of Megan who usually stays up past midnight reading or playing in her room.
I actually enjoyed my evening very much. I really don't like "partying" but if we had had some friends to hang around with for the evening that might have been nice. It's hard not to miss friends and family, our first new year's eve away from Ontario. Several of the years that we lived in Mississauga, we were invited out to spend NY eve with friends in Guelph and it was always low-key and very fun - lots of snack foods, board games and video games, very little alcohol or rowdiness. The kids would run around playing till they fell over exhausted and in the wee hours of the morning we could drive home and sleep in our own beds. Maybe if we're lucky, we'll meet some people here in Vancouver who we click with that well and create some more fun NY eve memories. As it is, hanging out together at home as a family is something we don't do all that often any more since Jeff got this new job, so last night was special in its own way.
