Dull weekend
Well, in spite of all our planning we ended up having a rather slow weekend because I have come down with some kind of flu bug :-(
Megan and I did end up going used book shopping, which was fun even though I had started to feel a bit "off" by mid-Saturday. We discovered that the only used bookstore in Burnaby is split in half, one half is devoted almost entirely to mystery novels and the other half is rented out by about 15-20 different used booksellers, who have a variety of different kinds of books, everything from out of print children's books to modern first editions. Definitely a place I will visit again! We went to a couple of other used bookstores, one of which is in a really nice and trendy-looking (ie, I bet the houses are hugely expensive) neighbourhood on Cambie St. I managed to resist buying an inscribed first edition of one of my favourite books, "Tigana" by Guy Gavriel Kay, which was for sale there. There was a store across the street from the bookstore that sold swords - how cool! They had authentic looking reproductions of the swords from the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Maybe one day when we have lots of money and Calum has lots more sense, we can buy one to hang on our wall :-)
Saturday evening we had Jeff's friend Chris over for dinner, then I spend most of the day yesterday in bed and the rest of the day on the couch, feeling rotten. I read an entire Peter Robinson novel (bought on Saturday), played a few more levels of "Indiana Jones and the Emperor's Tomb" and watched Junkyard Mega-Wars.
Calum's little problem seems to be clearing up - the swelling hasn't gone down completely but the reddish colour has gone. We have been giving him frequent long baths which seems to have helped a lot.
Today I'm feeling ready to get back into the swing of things, flu bug or no flu bug. We figured out on the weekend that the hotel cleaning staff is not going to come and clean our apartment twice a week as advertised on their website -- apparently this doesn't apply to the extended stay suites, grr! So I have to go buy some cleaning supplies. Megan is eager for us to head over to her new school and finish up the registration paperwork so she can go to school today, so I had better hop in the shower and get my day started!
