Jeff's job

When asked to talk about his new job, Jeff smiles enigmatically. "It's only been two days... I haven't really accomplished anything yet."

I interpret this with the knowledge that EA, like many other software companies, has a strict non-disclosure agreement with its employees. Anyone who talks to anyone else outside of the company about what they are doing will be sh... I mean, might lose their job.

I can tell you that Jeff likes his job so far, and enjoyed telling me about all the employee perks at the end of his first day. He gets free games -- a certain number of these each month and then can buy other games at $20 each after that -- and discounts if he buys game consoles. He gets to use the extensive library of video games (not limited to EA titles). He gets to play games at work (for research purposes, of course). He gets stock options and stuff. The cafeteria at work has nice and interesting vegetarian dishes.

His commute right now is much shorter than it was before. It used to take him over an hour and a half to go one way between work and home when we lived in Mississauga. He's experimenting with different ways to go back and forth right now but on the whole he is finding that his commuting time has more than halved. I think I talked about that before but I think it is really cool that he can spend less time travelling. He's not supposed to bring his own laptop to work any more so I guess that it's a good thing he doesn't have to sit staring out of the bus or skytrain window for a long time.
