Whining about Enrollment
Let me tell you about the enrollment process at SFU, since that's what I am mired in this week.
The way it works is that you get an email telling you a date and time after which you're allowed to enroll in classes. If you are early in your undergraduate career and haven't declared a major yet, your enrollment date is later. In order to declare a major, you need to be approved into the program you want, which usually entails taking certain prerequisite classes. Naturally, those classes are popular. Enrollment for the semester that starts in January began Nov 7th. By the time I got to enroll for next semester, yesterday morning, all those classes I mentioned earlier were full. This system appears to be designed to make it impossible for anyone to get ahead. If you can't get the classes you want, you can't complete your prerequisites, which means you can't declare a major, which means your enrollment date will be later than everyone else's, which means you can't get the classes you want.
Bleah! Remind me again why I wanted to go back to school? Oh yeah, learning. Right. Learning how to navigate the enrollment system is by far the biggest hurdle so far.
end of whine.
