thankfulness

We had a wonderful time last night at our thanksgiving day feast. There ended up being 14 people there, and so much food we couldn't cram it all onto the long kitchen counter in our apartment building's common room. Everything tasted great, of course. And man was there ever a lot of leftover pie! I underestimated how much pie people would eat. Even with sending leftovers home with people, we still have an entire pie to feast on in the days to come.

Our evening was noisy and chaotic. The kids ran around, played outside, played board games, fought, screamed, hit each other, fell over, cried, hugged, laughed together, decorated "thanksgiving candles" and lit them one at a time while saying what they were thankful for. (Most of them were thankful for "everything" or for "the turkey".) We played the Cranium Family Fun game and I laughed till I cried over my friend's young daughter trying to imitate a vampire while the rest of the kids made wild guesses as to what she was supposed to be acting out. I missed the end of the game due to a pressing need to whip a litre of cream for the pie and to deal with a thrown electrical circuit that resulted from plugging in two coffee pots at once (who'd have thought?!?). I hear the only ones who stayed with the game till the end were the dads. Not surprisingly, they won. Later on, we cleaned up together while the kids made and then ate the decorations off a gingerbread house.

I'm so thankful that we did this!
