off to the windy city
So this week I found out that I am going to Chicago in 2 weeks for a five day meeting. Yowza! I offered to do this because my support person in LLL Canada had a family emergency and needed to go overseas for several weeks... but I guess I wasn't sure she would actually take me up on it. But I'm glad, I think it will be a fun experience and I really need a break.
Wednesday morning I wasn't sure if I could pull this off - Jeff was really not able to commit to taking three days off work at this point in his project and after racking my brains for a while thinking of who I could ask to babysit I suddenly realized that I actually have a friend here and called her. She is going to take care of Calum for a day or two and Jeff will take a day or so off. I'm so glad that I have a friend here who can help me out. It makes me realize that we are really settling in here.
I've got a busy weekend ahead. Tomorrow is the LLL Canada AGM and it is being held in Surrey, BC this year, just a half hour or so from here. I'm picking up someone who is coming all the way from the west coast of Vancouver Island just to be at this meeting, and we'll ride down to Surrey together. Aside from the meeting there will be chances to hang out with other LLL people which I always enjoy doing.
Sunday is the first in a series of classes that I signed Megan up for at the Vancouver Unitarian church. It should be interesting. Parents are expected to stay for the first session so we can learn more about what the kids are doing. The class is about relationships and human sexuality - not an easy topic to talk about with kids - and this program has such a fantastic reputation for giving them unbiased information and helping them learn more about puberty. Anyway all I can say is that I'm glad it's not me teaching a room full of reluctant 9-12 year olds about THIS topic. I think most of them are being dragged there by their parents and are only consenting to attend because of the free pizza!
I've done a bit more toward the application process for SFU - ordered transcripts and paid the application fee today. It's good to keep this process moving along.
Well, I am sitting here typing this and Jeff (who came home for dinner three times this week - wow!) is cooking all alone... so I should really get off the computer and go help him out. Or... well... maybe I'll have another go at the new Xbox game Jeff picked up at work today, "Need for Speed Underground 2". This sure is the time of year to stock up on new video games.
