More sun
The weather continues to be beautiful with hardly a cloud in the sky for the past two days. I hear we are in for some heat this weekend as well.
We've been having a sort of slow week. Yesterday we tried to attend a local LLL meeting but ended up having to leave partway through because Calum was being far too distracting, and both kids were hungry. Megan had decided not to go to school because they only have half days on Tuesdays. We bought some groceries then headed home and just hung out here for the rest of the day. We are all enjoying the opportunity to catch lots of Star Trek reruns since there is not only cable TV in the apartment, but there is even a second television in one of the bedrooms. It is so convenient that I am actually considering buying a little television just like the one in the bedroom so that there will be a little less fighting over who gets to use the TV.
Today we managed to get out of the house reasonably early to visit a little petting farm near the school. It was a great opportunity to get some sun and fresh air and for me to meet a few of the other parents from the school. I'm finding people are very friendly and welcoming, and I hope that continues. The school really encourages a lot of parent participation which will be much easier for me if I get along well with the other parents!
The farm was a success and the kids thoroughly enjoyed it. I think Megan's favourite part was when the resident parrot said hello to her - she and another boy had been trying for quite a while to get the bird to talk to them. Calum loved feeding the ducks; the farm supplies a little bag of birdseed for each kid as part of the admission price. I've posted a few pictures below; unfortunately due to not being very good at taking pictures, most of the photos I took didn't turn out too well!
Jeff's working late tonight; it's just after nine PM and he said he would call when leaving the office, so I guess that he is still there. One of the things I have been worried about with this job is that he would have to work a lot more hours than in his previous job, which was more or less 9 to 5 with only occasional overtime. I guess this is a good opportunity for me to get used to not having him come in and take over with the kids for a couple of hours in the evening, but it's going to be a challenging thing to get used to. Calum sure does drain a lot of my energy. Perhaps this will spur me to search a little harder for a good preschool for him. :-)
