Getting out and about

Today the kids and I drove out to Coquitlam to visit the IKEA store there. Calum survived almost an hour in the playroom and mostly had a wonderful time until another kid threw a ball at his face and they paged me to come get my crying kid :-/ Megan and I had a good wander around looking at stuff and dreaming about decorating our new apartment. Megan's currently working on a massive list of objects she plans to make at school this fall for a little plastic person that came with a construction toy the kids have. She got lots of ideas at IKEA. I've had a few chances to read the list of things that this little plastic guy is going to have made for him (or maybe it's a her - hard to tell). They include such choice items as "toothbrush" "rice" "beans" and "greek temple".

We found a little fruit stand nearby selling fresh locally grown berries, and were delighted to see that blueberries and raspberries are already in season here. Wow! We are making plans to go out berry picking next week and now I need to decide if I'll be making massive amounts of homemade jam like I did last year. We go through a lot of the stuff, and there is nothing as yummy as homemade but I am not sure if it is cost effective. The canning supplies I own are, of course, all packed away in boxes in a warehouse right now -- sigh.

Jeff thinks he might have to work late tomorrow, but we won't care - Space channel is having a Star Trek: The Next Generation marathon in honour of Canada Day! (??). I should really have picked up a videocassette today in case they show "The Inner Light", one of the best episodes.

With all this overtime already after just 3 1/2 weeks on the job I'm feeling a little worried about committing to evening classes this fall, before we have a good feel for how often and how long Jeff will be needing to work late as his various project deadlines come and go. I'm also considering yet another new LLL position which I will write about if I get it! So much to think about, but for now I need to get into my pyjamas so the kids and I can hear Jeff read the latest chapter in the Dragonlance Chronicles novel he's reading aloud each night.
