night out
So, to do something to mark our big anniversary I hired a babysitter (a teen from Megan's school, who does all the child care for the parent council meetings) and Jeff and I had six whole hours to ourselves. It was marvellous. We went downtown and parked at Canada Place by the waterfront, then walked over to near where we lived during those lovely two months of city life this past summer. We ate at a Thai restaurant we've walked past many many times with the kids in tow but never felt like going in there and putting up with Megan complaining about the food and Calum being... well, Calum. The food was great and we both tried something totally new that we'd never had before. Then we walked to the big Chapters store I used to visit a lot this summer and I picked up a Peter Robinson novel that has just come out in paperback. Jeff bumped into a co-worker while we were looking at the video game magazines, and we got talking about games that are coming out soon.
Afterward we walked back to Canada Place and watched Spider-Man 2 on the IMAX screen. I have been waiting to see this film for SO long, I was really glad that it was still out in a theatre, any theatre... and the IMAX thing was interesting. Unfortunately it was quite a bit past my bedtime and I was so tired I was shaking.
The kids were wide awake when we picked them up at midnight and Calum immediately listed off all the many things he had done with the sitter. Megan was upstairs knitting with the sitter's younger sister who is Megan's age. I think they had a nice night too... Megan actually said, "thanks for arranging for us to practically spend the night there!".
Today is Jeff's birthday, but his project is in the last week of bug fixing and he has to go in to work!! How crappy is that, to have your birthday actually fall on a weekend and need to work anyway? He is still asleep now (it's almost 11:30) so although he said he would only work 8 hours today, I'm guessing we won't be able to have a family dinner or anything - what a shame.
